According to BBC news, new research suggests that jet contrails, which contribute significantly to global warming, could be minimised for just a few pounds per flight. By rerouting select flights in high-impact areas like North America, Europe, and the North Atlantic, an estimated 80% of contrail-related warming could be avoided.
Presented at COP29 in Baku, this approach has been highlighted as one of the simplest climate solutions for aviation.
Myles Corey, founder of Spaero, commented: “This solution shows that meaningful environmental change can be achieved through small yet impactful adjustments – a standard the industry should aim for.”
